Carmelo Anthony sets Madison Square Garden record 62 points

Wait a minute…Did that just happen?  Did we just witness history? On the heels of a strange 5-game losing streak, after an even stranger 5-game winning streak that saw his Knicks seemingly rejuvenated, Carmelo Anthony led New York to a 125-96 victory over the stunned Charlotte Bobcats Friday night scoring a franchise-high, Madison Square Garden record-setting and personal best 62 points in front of 19,812 in attendance. Anthony knocked down an incredible 23-of-35 shots, 6-of-11 from 3-point range, 10-of-10 from the free throw line while also hauling down a game-high 13 rebounds. var addthis_config = {"data_track_clickback":true,"ui_atversion":300,"data_track_addressbar":true,"ignore_server_config":true}; var addthis_share = {}; … Read entire article »

Gary Payton to Anthony Bennett: ‘You look fat’

Gary Payton to Anthony Bennett: ‘You look fat’

NBA Hall of Fame point guard Gary Payton is not known to mince words when speaking on the game of Basketball.  This statement could not hold more true after Payton voiced his unapologetic opinion about the Cleveland Cavaliers 2014 #1 overall pick Anthony Bennett on Fox Sports Live this past week.  Check out what ‘The Glove’ had to say below. … Read entire article »

DeMarcus Cousins injures ankle

DeMarcus Cousins injures ankle

Sacramento Kings’ star power forward DeMarcus Cousins left the Rockets-Kings contest early Wednesday evening due to an ankle injury. Cousins, who is averaging 22.6 points per game this season, injured the left ankle on a drive to the basket with 7:18 left in the second quarter.    With Sacramento already losing high-flying small forward Rudy Gay to an apparent Achilles injury earlier in the game, the loss of Cousins only magnified the team’s eventual 98-119 loss … Read entire article »

Michael Jordan gives young O.J. Mayo a lesson

Rare footage circled the internet this Thursday morning of a grizzled Michael Jordan giving a then much younger O.J. Mayo a lesson or two at one of Jordan’s camps. This comes on the heels of the latest NBA2K launch that has provided the G.O.A.T. once again a platform to further separate himself from any other Basketball icon we have ever seen in terms of sheer social relevance.  M.J. proves time and time again that he remains the most popular figure in hoops that there may have ever been. Not sure when exactly this was filmed, but by the looks of M.J. in the video, one would assume it was around post-Wizards comeback time…circa 2003-2005.  And with that the legend continues. Without further adieu, Jordan dominating high schooler O.J. Mayo followed by the interview … Read entire article »

Derrick, Kevin, Rajon, and Dirk welcome back

There was an eerily unfamiliar scene frequented across NBA hardwoods last season. While Lebron James and Kevin Durant dazzled the hoops landscape in their respective cities in their usually exciting fashion, other NBA cities’ fans, namely those in Chicago and Minneapolis, peered down to courts noticeably vacant of their team’s stars. Last season fans saw a league seemingly terrorized by a rash of major injuries that absolutely altered the overall feel and mood of the campaign. No Derrick Rose dashing past defenders at the rim.  No Dirk Nowitzki, for an extended portion of 2012-13, fading away off one-leg from the top of the circle.  No Kevin Love picking, popping and swallowing up every carrom that came his way. No.  Those NBA standbys were absent from the court, and because of that, absent from our … Read entire article »

Dragic, Slovenia shock Spain in EuroBasket 2013 Group Play

After barely squeaking by the Czech Republic Wednesday with a 62-60 win in the EuroBasket 2013 opener, host Slovenia, behind a game-high 18 points from point guard Goran Dragic, shocked International powerhouse Spain with a 78-69 win Thursday to move to 2-0 in Group play. To go along with his 18 points, Dragic also added six rebounds and seven assists. Spain, playing without veteran Pau Gasol, was led by younger brother Marc Gasol who tallied 17 points and seven rebounds in defeat. Although the elder Gasol brother did not play, Spain still touted a stacked roster of players including Ricky Rubio, Rudy Fernandez, Jose Calderon, Victor Claver and the aforementioned Marc Gasol. Slovenia, not deterred by Spain’s seemingly intimidating lineup, used their host location to spur on a shocking upset early in Group C … Read entire article »

McGrady’s career numbers give Hall-of-Fame argument validity

McGrady’s career numbers give Hall-of-Fame argument validity

Is Tracy McGrady a Hall-of-Famer?  A 7-time NBA All-Star, 2-time scoring champ and current holder of countless Houston Rockets’ records, but a Hall-of-Famer? A tough debate indeed.  Not many players in the history of the league have showcased McGrady’s unique mix of scoring, passing and defensive ability.  Nor have many been able to truly dominate from the guard position as McGrady did. No, McGrady won’t be judged as a potential HOFer based on wins and losses.  His hope … Read entire article »

Tracy McGrady scores 13 points in 35 seconds (video)

Tracy McGrady scores 13 points in 35 seconds (video)

Earlier today Tracy McGrady, 34, officially announced his retirement from the NBA.  Although this news may not come as a shock to most, McGrady, during his prime was one of the most prolific scorers in the National Basketball Association. A seven-time All-Star and two-time scoring champ, McGrady could put up some numbers.  The lanky 6-8 shooting guard even cracked the 60-point mark back in 2004. However, his most memorable moment may have come during that same season … Read entire article »

James Harden’s new music video ‘Harden Soul’

Here at Hardwood Canvas we have to give James Harden love for two things; he went to college at Arizona State University and apparently he’s not afraid to poke fun at himself. Recently Harden joined Steph Curry to shoot a Foot Locker 30-second promo spot that showcased the bearded one’s special vocal abilities.   The end result is a hilarious music video titled “Harden Soul”, which is sure to make you chuckle…at least a little. … Read entire article »
