The NBA Draft has a long storied history. From Oscar Robertson to Shaquille O’Neal, teams fate rest many times on the tireless efforts put into scouting, evaluating and ultimately determining which young player will lead them to league success.

However, as you surely have witnessed throughout the years, a franchise can be turned around by a player that’s not necessarily selected as number one overall.

Steve Nash, selected with the 15th overall pick in the 1996 Draft, and Kobe Bryant, selected in that same draft at 13 by the, then, Charlotte Hornets go a long way in adding merit to that claim.

The #1 overall picks starting from the 1950 NBA Draft. Select the Year to view a particular draft order.
