Derrick, Kevin, Rajon, and Dirk welcome back

There was an eerily unfamiliar scene frequented across NBA hardwoods last season. While Lebron James and Kevin Durant dazzled the hoops landscape in their respective cities in their usually exciting fashion, other NBA cities’ fans, namely those in Chicago and Minneapolis, peered down to courts noticeably vacant of their team’s stars. Last season fans saw a league seemingly terrorized by a rash of major injuries that absolutely altered the overall feel and mood of the campaign. No Derrick Rose dashing past defenders at the rim.  No Dirk Nowitzki, for an extended portion of 2012-13, fading away off one-leg from the top of the circle.  No Kevin Love picking, popping and swallowing up every carrom that came his way. No.  Those NBA standbys were absent from the court, and because of that, absent from our … Read entire article »

Kobe Bryant once scored 81 points in an NBA game

Regardless of the time of year, Kobe Bryant seems to have an uncanny ability to stay relevant and in the news. We last saw Kobe actually on an NBA court nailing two clutch free throws just moments after tearing his left Achilles tendon.  Pretty impressive stuff.  But then again we in the Basketball community have come to expect this type of heroic work from the ‘Black Mamba’. D’Antoni: ‘You start messing with the basketball gods, they will get you.’

Mike D’Antoni is not a happy man.  And, even more so, he is not at all happy with how his so-called team of super pros regard their championship hopes this season. In a press conference for the ages last night, D’Antoni offered up some honest revelations on his teams’ seemingly misguided thoughts on contention after they blew a comfortable 18-point lead in the second half against none other than John Wall and the lowly Wizards at … Read entire article »

Kobe’s mask not affecting his play

Concussion, bum wrist, new mask and all, nothing can halt the determined Kobe Bryant this season. Almost a week after the 16-year NBA vet suffered a concussion from a Dwyane Wade foul in the 2012 All-Star game, Kobe continues to prove to us why there is virtually no obstacle that can keep him from dominating a basketball game. The Kings tried their best Friday night, but 38 points and 8 rebounds later they were left with the same feeling everybody else … Read entire article »

Kobe can’t stop, won’t stop

Kobe can’t stop, won’t stop

This just in: Kobe’s not going to stop shooting – he’s taken 62 total shots in the last two games. But with the blistering pace and accuracy with which he is doing so right now, why on earth should he? In an earlier piece posted here on Hardwood Canvas just this past week I questioned the necessity of Bryant’s increased shot attempts based on the Lakers’ plethora of top-notch bigs (It’s a quality read, I promise). However, after … Read entire article »
