LeBron James leads Miami Heat to back-to-back NBA Championships

It wasn’t easy, but LeBron James and the Miami Heat dismissed the San Antonio Spurs Thursday night to become back-to-back NBA Champions with a grueling 95-88 victory in Game 7 of the 2013 NBA Finals. Box Score | 2013 NBA Playoffs Bracket James took home his second straight Finals MVP on the heels of an impressive 37-point, 12-rebound performance when his team needed it most in the last game of the season. Knocking down jumper after jumper, LeBron finally made the Spurs pay for daring him to shoot hitting 5-of-10 from long range on the night.  His sidekick Dwyane Wade ignited the spark for the Heat early with a 14-point first half barrage of his own on a series of left wing mid-range jump shots.  Wade finished the night with 23 points and 10 … Read entire article »

Green, Neal lead Spurs to Game 3 victory behind record 16 3-pointers

It took all but 48 hours for the San Antonio Spurs to emphatically snatch momentum back from the defending Champion Miami Heat with a 113-77 thrashing at the AT&T Center Tuesday night behind a NBA Finals record-setting 16 3-pointers. Danny Green paced the home team with a game-high 27 points on 7-of-9 shooting from deep while second-unit sharpshooter Gary Neal exploded for 24 points of his own on an equally impressive 6-of-10 shooting from behind the arc. The Heat looked shell-shocked as the Spurs took a six-point cushion at intermission and turned it into an impressive display of three-point marksmanship and a 30-point rout in the second half. Miami appeared a step too slow out of the gates, but were able to pull to a 44-all tie with less than a minute to … Read entire article »

Heat bounce back with a vengeance in Game 2

Game 2 was close at one point with San Antonio, once again, appearing to have the Miami Heat right where they wanted them late in the third quarter. But something changed within a blink of an eye and after Mario Chalmers knocked down a huge and-one off a high pick and roll with James at the 3:11 mark of the third, Miami erupted to go on one of the most impressive closing runs in NBA Finals history. The run…a dominant 30-5 stretch culminated by LeBron James iconic block on a Tiago Splitter dunk attempt.  Before Chalmers hit that above-mentioned and-one the score was 62-61 Spurs.  At the close of the 4th quarter and after the Heat were finished dismantling San Antonio, however, the score was 103-84. 2013 NBA Playoff Bracket WIth Miami running countless … Read entire article »

Parker, Spurs steal Game 1 from Heat in Miami

The Miami Heat fought all season long to secure the right to have homecourt in the NBA Finals, but in 48 minutes all that hard work went out the window. Thursday night Tony Parker paced the veteran Spurs with a game-high 21 points including a huge runner with the shot clock winding down late in the contest, to help steal Game 1 of the 2013 NBA Finals and snatch the momentum from the defending champions in front of their home crowd. Parker finished with 21 points, six assists and zero turnovers in 40 minutes while veteran big man Tim Duncan added 20 points and 14 rebounds to go along with 3 blocks in the 92-88 series-opening win. LeBron James again carried the Heat with an 18-point, 18-rebound, 10-assist triple double.  Teammate Dwyane Wade … Read entire article »

Parker’s aggressive first quarter the difference in Game 3

Tony Parker and the San Antonio Spurs bested the hot-shooting Golden State Warriors 102-92 at Oracle Arena Friday night to take a 2-1 series lead in their Western Conference Semifinal round, but the true difference in this potentially series-defining Game 3 victory was Parker’s ultra-aggressive mentality in the first quarter of play. Clearly understanding that his team needed to make Golden State’s guards actually play a little defense instead of just chucking up shots from all areas of the court on the offensive side of the ball, Parker went pick-and-roll happy to the tune of 13 first-quarter points on 6-of-8 shooting.  He would go on to add 12 more points in the second, to notch a very Curry-like 25 points by halftime. But it was how the Spurs’ All-Star point guard went … Read entire article »

Patty Mills to the Spurs

Patty Mills to the Spurs

Quietly those “old” San Antonio Spurs continue to make winning moves this season.  After picking up veteran competitor Stephen Jackson and recently waived forward Boris Diaw, the team announced Tuesday afternoon that former Portland Trail Blazer and Australia-native Patty Mills has been signed after playing lockout ball in China this fall. Mills, 23, provides a nice boost of speed and youth to San Antonio’s backcourt and should be a pleasant surprise now since T.J. Ford has … Read entire article »

Weren’t these rookies supposed to suck?

Weren’t these rookies supposed to suck?

Weren’t these rookies supposed to suck? Remember all that talk pre-draft 2011 about the lack of talent coming into the league?  Wasn’t this supposed to be a so-called ‘down year’ for NBA rookies? Surely you remember all of that utter nonsense, but if not it bears repeating as the overwhelmingly premature generalizations gained momentum like an all-encompassing mid-western tornado this past summer. Thankfully the early returns are in and with about a third of the 2011-12 season completed; … Read entire article »

Navarro grabs MVP, headlines EuroBasket 2011 All-Tourney Team

Juan Carlos Navarro, better known by his Spanish teammates as ‘La Bomba’, grabbed the coveted EuroBasket 2011 MVP award along with a nice Gold medal for his troubles Sunday after Spain ousted Tony Parker and France 98-85 in the championship game. Navarro and the aforementioned Frenchmen, Parker, were both named to the EuroBasket 2011 All-Tournament team that also included Spain’s big man and Los Angeles Lakers’ power forward Pau Gasol, relatively unheralded American-born shooting guard Bo … Read entire article »
